Still Bach
In this compressed and turning silence
Made even yet more still
By the movement of the quiet
In between the notes,
Inside this shell of music
Violin veined,
Flute infiltrated,
Cello skeined,
A white translucence moves
In the slowly chiming hush;
And then the woodwind sighs
Scored with purple sinews
Of higher, sweeter sound;
Inside this somehow sacred place
Inside of me
I continue yet to be
Still
With Bach.
