Mike Germain, veteran composer and  musician who plays double bass and guitar, founded Destino Jazz in 2009. The six man band includes panman Ray Holman who plays double second guitar.

The thinking behind the formation of Destino Jazz was to create a band to explore different jazz genres with particular reference to the Caribbean and Latin American musical traditions which have their roots in Calypso, Meringue, Son and Zouk.

In  islands such as Trinidad and Tobago the pure jazz following is small so Destino Jazz decided to take on the challenge of introducing jazz to wider audiences by marrying the classic jazz forms to  local rhythms.

Mike Germain has collaborated  for several years with artist Sarah Beckett and together they have participated in multi-arts events for Trinidad Quartet Productions and also for the film Alabaster Moon.

In 2009, Beckett and Germain produced an introductory event RapRomance at Gallery In2Art, combining Jazz, Poetry and Art.
